Hello, I recently upgraded several parts of my computer and noticed performance drops when playing high-end games lasting between 5 minutes to an hour. Here are the details:

- CPU: AMD RYZEN 9 5950X
- GPU: MSI NVidia GFORCE RTX 2060 (unchanged)
- Motherboard: ROG STRIX B550-F
- RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x32GB at 3200MHz (Vengeance LPX)
- Storage: Crucial MX500 2TB, CT2000MX500SSD (boot drive)
- Power Supply: Corsair 850W semi-modular
- Software: x64-based PC, Windows 11 (version/date: American Megatrends Inc., 1205, 17/11/2020)

Initially, the system started up normally and displayed correctly during light tasks. However, during intense gaming sessions like AC Valhalla or Battlefront 2, it would freeze—time and background lagging—but I could still move the mouse, open windows, and sometimes access Task Manager to close applications. Occasionally, even the ASUS Armoury CRATE froze, but performance improved afterward after a hard reset.

I’ve followed all troubleshooting steps: updated Windows, reinstalled graphics drivers (version 516.94), verified game files, cleaned installations, checked temperatures, and adjusted RAM speed from 2133MHz to 3200MHz as recommended online. I also ran memory diagnostics twice and confirmed everything was working.

Despite these efforts, the freezing continues. I suspect a hardware issue—possibly a faulty GPU, storage drive, or PSU. Since this is my first time upgrading, I’m relying on limited knowledge and online research. Please advise if you have any suggestions or further steps to try. Thank you for your help!

What kind of cooler are you using? Have you re-applied thermal paste? Make sure the cooler fits snugly and the CPU is correctly positioned. I’m not comfortable with the CPU stress tests in CPU-Z—consider using Prime95 or Cinebench to check performance.

I checked the installation and confirmed everything is in place. The screws show resistance, the springs are engaged, and thermal paste was applied. I’ll proceed with the tests now. Do you think the CPU might be the issue?

I executed prime95 for three hours on CPU; usage stayed consistent throughout, though temperatures varied slightly—generally hovering near 65°C but rising to about 89°C at peak, usually settling around 85°C every 15 to 20 minutes. At the end, no errors were found. I’m unsure if this performance is satisfactory.

I refreshed the bios again but the issue persisted. I wondered if freezing my background might be the cause, so I removed it and played a mix of high-load games for about 5 to 6 hours without any problems. I’m hoping that resolved it, thank you all for your assistance.
