Improve your CPU, MOBO and add RAM if needed for around 400 euros.
Hello everyone, I’m from the Netherlands and I’m a bit unsure if this will affect anyone on the forum. I’d really appreciate any advice on what to focus on before I start searching for the best deals. My current setup includes an Intel i5 6500 processor, a Gigabyte G1 Sniper B7 motherboard with 16GB DDR4 RAM at 2133MHZ. I’m planning to upgrade only the CPU since my GPU (Intel Core i5-1060) is still adequate for 2560x1080 resolution and storage needs are minimal. The power supply unit is a Corsair CX450M, which isn’t bad but feels outdated—almost four years old now. I’m considering it might not be up to the demands of newer CPUs.
My main motivation is playing Assetto Corsa Competizione, a demanding racing simulator. At my resolution it’s quite CPU-heavy. I’ve checked NZXT CAM and seen that my CPU stays at 100% utilization while the GPU only runs around 40-50%. From what others say, the game should run smoothly at 3600MHz. I found an upgrade kit for about €399 with new RAM, but I was also thinking about a 10700F since I already have a GPU and prices are reasonable—around €280.
The issue is whether my PSU can support a 10700F and if I’d need to replace the RAM. I’ve scanned my motherboard’s BIOS for XMP support but didn’t find it, though it might differ with a B460 board paired with an i7. I’m a bit worried about compatibility and performance.
If you have any insights or recommendations, I’d really appreciate them. Thanks in advance!
