I'm thinking about moving up from the 3800x to a 10850k. I want to boost my FPS for my 1080p 144Hz Gsync setup. Any ideas on R7 3800x Asus X470 Crosshair VII Hero EVGA RTX 2070 XC Ultra?
A 3800x is a fully functional 144fps processor with straightforward performance. Many titles don’t deliver the desired frame rates, making a switch to a 10850k only marginally helpful and unlikely to boost speeds beyond a small margin. For similar investment, a 5800x offers a noticeable upgrade, but it’s still unnecessary since the 3800x already handles games smoothly without major issues.
Your CPU is working perfectly, and investing $500 for an extra 10 fps isn't wise. If you're serious about upgrading, hold off for a few months until the market stabilizes, then consider selling your 2070. The price you get will depend on future performance in the 3050s. After that, you might be able to upgrade to a 3080 or 3070.
Thanks for the feedback. I enjoy playing games such as ESO, Fallout 76, Cold War and Cyberpunk. I understand cyberpunk faces some challenges, so I won’t base my assessment on that genre.
