My PC parts include an Intel Core i9-12900K at 3.2 GHz, a 16-core processor from Asus ROG STRIX Z690-F, an Asus ROG STRIX WIFI ATX LGA1700 motherboard, Corsair Vengeance RGB 32 GB DDR5 memory, a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 with 32 GB VRAM, and a Fortnite monitor. I’m currently seeing 70-110 FPS on my AOC 1440P when running at maximum settings, even with Lumen + Nanite and virtual shadows. I’m frustrated because the low frame rate feels like a bottleneck. ChatGPT suggested my CPU might be limiting performance, but others on Reddit said upgrading the CPU won’t help if I switch to 4K soon. If I keep using the 1440P, should I still upgrade? If I move to 4K, shouldn’t I skip the CPU upgrade? Is that accurate? I’m aiming for Fortnite at full graphics, including Lumen + Nanite + shadows, and want at least 180 FPS. I’m considering either two Alienware or two ASUS models. Do I really need a higher-end CPU now, or can I still enjoy smooth gameplay?

You're looking for a high frame rate of 180 fps. Have you checked the specifications? If yes, go for it. If not, consider the 9850x3d option.

Not feasible at all. Achieving 180fps on a 12900k requires tweaking only the settings in Unreal Engine 5. Simply reduce the settings, and you’ll quickly reach 200fps smoothly. A solid benchmark.

Sure, lower the settings. Lumen and nanite won’t really boost the experience much. At least it won’t make the game significantly more enjoyable to justify the cost of a new GPU, CPU, or RAM—especially given today’s price on RAM. Upgrading your monitor could be worth it since your current display is VA and isn’t great for fast-paced competitive play.

Should I lower the GPU to resolve the issue? You might also want to tweak the settings in Forknife.
