Imminently about to dive in—monitoring keeps me from jumping yet
Hi everyone, new to this and haven’t found the right guide yet. I’m using a 200Hz Ultrawide and a 144Hz 4K monitor as a secondary display. I really like Pop! OS, even though it requires some tweaking to get games running smoothly. The scaling settings in XOrg are unpredictable—changing the 4K scaling feels unreliable, and I can’t save any usable configurations. I’m wondering what alternatives exist to fix this. I’ve heard Wayland works well, but I’m unsure how official support will evolve with future Pop! OS versions. Should I hold off until HDR support is added to Wayland, or is there a timeline for those improvements? Please share any insights you have.
Unfortunately, XOrg remains your only option right now. Nvidia's compatibility with Wayland isn't ideal, making it a less favorable choice compared to what you're facing. Pop_OS! offers solid Wayland support as it runs on Gnome, which is currently the top choice for Wayland functionality. Regarding scaling, I'm not very familiar with Pop_OS!'s scaling setup and haven't had to adjust it extensively. Someone else might have a better approach, but due to XOrg's frequent issues, you may end up having to accept the situation.
Thanks for the feedback! Another choice would be using a single monitor and sending the 4K content to the kids for a major boost—especially since I enjoy the tiling in Pop_OS and appreciate its sleek, clean desktop compared to the varied interfaces I see on Windows. Wayland is a bit frustrating, but I’m willing to wait for improvements like HDR. Maybe a little Xorg expert could share some tips on the best setup?
