You're ready to use Clonezilla and looking for tutorials that focus on the core steps rather than detailed setup variations. I've found some guides that walk through the process without extra customization. Your goal of cloning a Windows 7 installation and saving it to an external storage is definitely achievable. If you need help navigating those resources or have more questions, feel free to ask! And thanks for checking in—likes appreciated!
You need to be able to identify your own storage devices easily. I followed exactly what you suggested—I made a clone of my 240GB SSD (mostly empty) onto an external drive. I plan to watch the video I just saw...1 second... I relied entirely on this method. For booting, I used a DVD in an optical drive; it felt simpler, though USB works just as well. I have plenty of unused space available.
Great job on getting it working! I initially had trouble connecting the external drive, so I reset it through Clonezilla and then reinserted it. Now it’s successfully cloned for Windows 7. Thanks a lot for your help! For those hesitant about Chrome, simply open the command prompt, type the backup command, copy the needed files, paste them to your backup folder, and you’re done.
I tried to check if the image would display correctly. The restore command caused multiple errors, making the Windows drive invisible and disrupting my Ubuntu setup. I followed all the steps carefully on the video guide. Did you need help with Windows 7 configuration after this issue?
Interesting. It worked well for me too—I didn’t need any preparation and restored the image twice. My thought is the writing process took a short time, around ten minutes for a 24GB file.
I thought it wise to try it out later, so if needed a month from now I wouldn’t be caught off guard with errors. haha It used nearly 200gb (165gb) and took about two hours (on a 500gb WD hard drive). The guide mentioned it could take a while, which made me assume it was typical. Oh, here are some details it reported:
I analyzed the terminal logs in Clonezilla and noticed some strange behavior. It seemed the software was struggling to read the drive, possibly due to outdated versions. I revisited earlier releases of Clonezilla and tried installing Tuxboot on Ubuntu with the image "clonezilla-live-20140915-trusty-amd64." After launching Clonezilla, it successfully loaded and restored my Windows files from a completely erased hard drive. This experience was incredibly satisfying—Clonezilla truly impressed me! Thank you for sharing this tip and the tutorial video; it’s been a great resource!
It seems you were confused, but I'm happy you got it. Thanks!
I just wish the fix would work for others who are getting errors when restoring images. From what I noticed, this isn’t unique—I’ve had the same issue. It’s surprising how many people face this problem. The main thing is that I installed only BF3/4 with all updates and two drawing programs. I don’t know why it took up so much space, but it’s still handy and I appreciate it.
