Your Mac's storage fluctuates wildly between hundreds and just a few megabytes. When you try to locate files, they often disappear entirely. Is the operating system concealing files? What’s causing this problem?

It might be a self-operating backup solution in action. (I have no idea about Apple technology, so I'll back off.)

Haha! I guess I dont either, clearly. But it's really getting to the point to where I want to throw the computer out the window

Are you receiving alerts about a full hard drive? This might occur when performing memory-heavy tasks, as the system will begin utilizing the hard disk for swap space, filling it up during the process. After closing the program or stopping the operation, everything should return to normal. If you suspect space is being consumed without obvious causes, consider using Omni Disk Sweeper to inspect the entire hard drive.

The method won’t consume 100GB of storage even with swapping.

Even though I'm not an Apple supporter, it's really a waste of money.

Sorry, I've been out of the loop—I missed this discussion. It might be due to my frequent use of Imovie and Logic Pro, but I tend to delete large files quickly. If I'm correct, when memory struggles, it could cause data loss to the hard drive? Haha

Many operating systems handle this to prevent crashes, only slightly reducing speed because HDDs are slower than RAM. They use a file on the hard drive that gets updated with data from RAM over time, especially for less frequently accessed items. This isn’t something users need to worry about in everyday situations. However, I’m not entirely sure anymore. Isn’t there a feature like Treesize for macOS that helps track space usage more clearly?

Thanks for the feedback! It’s frustrating when the tool doesn’t show any usage stats. If you try another method or app, let me know—I’m here to help!
