IMac malfunctions and powers off unexpectedly.
Hi everyone, just starting out with Linux again and trying to fix an issue. My iMac 24" has been shutting down unexpectedly over the past six months. I've replaced the hard drive and memory, hoping that fixed it, but it keeps happening. I'm looking for advice to get this resolved. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks!
I recently cleaned out the dust from my 24-inch iMac from early 2009 after swapping the hard drive and memory, though I haven’t changed the thermal paste yet.
Do you recall which GPU model was used in those vintage Macs? They're famous for overheating and causing the GPU to fail.
It could have stopped working. You're using an old MacBook with a 2008 model and the 8600M GT chip. I changed the board, it ran for a bit then shut down again... maybe bad luck. What OS version are you running on your Mac? You might check the system logs to see why it restarts.
I'll check that out for you. It seems to stop working unexpectedly, even when you need it most. My old 17" MacBookPro from before the iMac still runs smoothly. The newest OS X version I can install is El Capitain, but it won't let me add Sierra.
