I'm upgrading my pc and require assistance.
Hello, I'm looking to upgrade my PC in the most cost-effective way possible. I'm not sure where to begin with my current setup. I'm expecting a full rebuild, but I hope I can still make it work. Here’s what I have:
Components:
CPU: AMD 3+ FX-8370 Eight-Core
Motherboard: Sabertooth 990fx R2.0
RAM: 32GB DDR3
GPU: GTX 980 SLI
Gameplay: Mostly Sea of Thieves (aiming for ~120 or 144 FPS), plus Monster Hunter World and sometimes Call of Duty Cold War.
Goal: Achieve a smooth gaming experience, especially for Sea of Thieves, but I’m unsure where to start.
A good deal would be the i5-11400 for about $150 more.
Buy the 11400 vs. the 11400f .
The f versions do not have integrated graphics that lets you run and test if you have graphics card issues. The price difference is only $5.
That would easily target your $500 budget.

Intel Core i5-11400F Review: The New Value Champ
The Core i5-11400F coupled with a B560 motherboard make for an interesting build configuration, as it's significantly cheaper than the Core i5-11600K/Z590 and less than the cost...

Save the extra for a graphics card.
There are some recent Ryzen 5 and Intel i5 models that could surpass the 8370. Even if you push the 8370 to its limits, it might struggle with a 980 in single-channel overclocking, especially with two CPUs in SLI. To cut costs, selling a 980 at a high price right now would be smart. Use that money to upgrade your system—consider a B550 board, a Ryzen 5 5600X, and 16GB DDR4 3200+ MHz RAM. Also, many games have dropped support for SLI recently.
What is your budget?
Right now, you can purchase an i3-10100F processor, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and an LGA1200 motherboard for roughly $250.
The i3-10100 offers significantly more power compared to your FX-8350.

You should be able to salvage your case, PSU, and HDD.
Consider selling one of the GTX980 cards.
If you don’t already have an SSD, plan on getting one.
I have two SSDs installed on my PC and plan to move them over.
With that amount of money you won't face any problems entering the situation I mentioned earlier. Additionally, consider it a favorable moment to sell your surplus card.
