Hello,
I recently purchased a CPU a few weeks ago and attempted to overclock it, but I'm unable to exceed a core ratio higher than 45x—it always resets to 45x. Could this issue be related to the MOBO's maximum frequency limit or is there a problem with my CPU?

Power Supply: Corsair RM650 80 Plus Gold (3 years old)
Motherboard: Asus Rog Strix B660-A Gaming Wifi D4
GPU: Gtx 1660 Ti Dual OC
CPU: i5 12600KF
The computer is mainly used for gaming and some video editing, running on Windows 10 Pro.

Update your update with complete hardware details and operating system specifics. Provide the power supply information, including make, model, wattage, age, and condition. List the disk drives with their respective models and capacities, noting how full they are. Clarify your objectives for overclocking. Identify the main purpose of the host system—whether it's for gaming, video editing, bit-mining, or another use case.

My computer is fairly recent, with most parts being around three years old, except for the CPU and motherboard which I recently upgraded.

Three years isn't necessarily a sign of failure. And being new doesn't guarantee instant performance or immediate issues. My initial thought is that a three-year-old PSU, particularly if it's been used heavily for gaming, video editing, or mining, might be worth checking the Reliability History and Event Viewer. Are there any logs linking the overclock failures to specific dates and times?

I haven't encountered any issues with overclocking my older Ryzen 5 2600, so it seems like that might not be the cause.

I think you're looking for a recommendation on which motherboard to get if you want to overclock your system.

This does not rule out issues when overclocking a CPU: i5 12600KF.

The issue arises when adjusting the CPU core ratio speed, as it reverts to 45x. This might be related to the motherboard configuration.
