Your network is set up with a home network drive connected to a router that also acts as a switch. When you connect your computer directly to the home network, it works with the drive, but when plugged into the switch, it doesn’t reach the drive and you can still access the internet. The IP addresses differ, but that might not affect functionality.

This "home network" begins with the connection entering the house, typically involving a modem or fiber box followed by another modem. From there, the secondary router acts as a switch and remains enabled for DHCP. You should switch it to bridge mode and turn off DHCP to resolve the issue. The modem then manages routing, DHCP and DNS, solving the problem.

the home network is the setup from your modem/router that provides internet via DSL. it connects to a modem/router combo, then uses an ethernet cable to link to a secondary router acting as a switch for your computer. i’m having trouble finding the bridge mode, if that’s what you meant.

Avoid using the second router's port on the second device. I believe you're enabling dual NAT.

Yes. Always connect locally and turn off DHCP, then it should work fine.
