Because of the prime day, I’m getting an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X and a MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK Gaming Motherboard. The PC part picker says the BIOS might not work out of the box, but some people say it does. Do you have a clear answer? I’m just starting out and want to be sure before purchasing.
It probably will, but since there's an off chance you might get a board that's been in the back of a warehouse for a long time, it might not. That is as "straight" an answer as you'll get. The good news is the B550 Tomahawk supports BIOS flash without a compatible CPU so this is basically a non-issue.
The BIOS version a motherboard supports is tied to its production timeline. Because the B550 platform launched a couple of months prior to the official release of the Ryzen 5000 series chips, most B550 and A520 boards still include compatibility for the 5600X, 5800X, 5900X and 5950X. The packaging will typically note "Ryzen 5000 series compatible" or similar. Updated July 13, 2022 by Fasauceome
