I'm checking if this capability is still being worked on with Windows 10. It seems some users are confused because they heard about an option to cleanly install Windows 10 using a different product key, especially since Microsoft support suggested purchasing a new key. I should clarify whether this feature is available now or if it's still under development.
You may keep your existing Win7+ product key until July 2016 to function as a Win10 product key. Beyond that, you can proceed with an upgrade installation or a fresh installation using that key to enable activation.
