I’m working with an i5-6402p processor, 2.8ghz, paired with a GTX 1060 and 3GB of RAM. Older games still run smoothly, but newer titles like Valorant and Cold War are causing performance issues. I mainly use the PC for gaming and aim to keep 144 FPS stable without major stress. Suggestions on which component to upgrade first would be helpful! Note: My motherboard only matches the attached image.

I5 covers a wide spectrum from mildly disturbed thoughts to top-tier performance gaming CPUs. Share your thoughts! Even though 2.8Ghz suggests it's on the lower side for I5, what do you think?

You might have to replace your CPU, but the issue is that LGA1151 slots are quite costly (6600, 6700, etc.), so you'd also need a new motherboard. A solid upgrade would involve pairing a 3100/3300X with an affordable B450 such as a Pro4, which typically runs around $160–200$.

Retrieve the 7700K, then adjust to around 3300x and a B450 Pro view – it should function perfectly.

You can get a substantial performance increase with the listed components. This selection includes a Ryzen 5 3600 processor, an AM4 motherboard, memory modules, and other parts all priced clearly. All costs account for shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts, bringing the total to $361.96. The information was generated by PCPartPicker on November 26, 2020.
