Over the past six months, my PC has experienced random hard restarts. The problem seems to intensify slowly and occurs unpredictably, both when idle and during tasks. Heavy usage doesn’t seem to make it worse, and it happens at the same rate regardless of workload. I’ve reset the CMOS, turned off Precision Boost, and run memory tests—results are normal. Since temperatures stay stable, overheating isn’t the cause. I suspect a component is failing or faulty. My initial thoughts are about the motherboard or power supply unit, but I’m leaning toward the motherboard. Would anyone have ideas to help diagnose or identify which part needs replacement? I’d prefer not to waste money on random parts. Current specs: Gigabyte X570 Aorus Ryzen 5600X, 32GB Gskill Trident Z Neo (3600MHz), EVGA RTX 3080, 850W Corsair PSU (unclear model), two 1TB Samsung M.2 SSDs, Windows 11 64-bit.

Checked the Windows Event Viewer logs for unusual activity. Reset the logs and observe later to spot any anomalies. Focus on Critical Red and Warning Amber entries near the anticipated critical shutdown notice. Determine the frequency—daily, weekly, or hourly?

Join the discussions again! Follow the usual SFC/DISM steps and check HWMonitor for voltage trends over time. Confirm they remain within ATX standards. When these shutdowns occur, does it trigger a BSOD or simply turns off?

Test static overclock using a low voltage setting and observe for any crashes.

Review the event viewer first to see if anything unusual occurred before the restart. Many Corsair PSUs sold as refurb are often unreliable. Do you have any spare parts available for troubleshooting?

A similar situation occurred with me and Linus too. They actually created a video about it. Look for the C-state configuration. It fixed my problem and is worth experimenting with before making any changes.

Disabled C-State and updated PSU Idle Control to Typical Current. Results to be observed.

No blue screen, the computer shuts down completely and restarts right away. Sometimes it manages to boot a few times before failing entirely. I tried running SFC but it didn’t help. DISM also came up clean—no corruption detected. I plan to check the power supply voltages later tonight when I’m back home.

I'll take a look. It seems quite unpredictable. Occasionally it runs several times a day, while other days I might go a full week without any problems.

It seems there could be power instability or a PSU problem. Do you have a UPS available?
