I grew tired of my EdgeRouter Pro due to its QoS restrictions and absence of any IPS/IDS features. That’s why I upgraded. Here’s the unit I ended up with. We’re installing 1Gbps/250Mbps fiber soon, followed by 1Gbps/1Gbps, and I needed a model that supports IPS/IDS, QoS, Application Control, multiple VPNs, and AV capabilities. It also includes two 10Gbe ports for future upgrades to a 10Gbe core switch. I’m pleased with the $40/year HomePro license price. Additionally, I have four fiber uplinks extending from my shop to the small rack housing my backup NAS. Yesterday’s average CPU usage suggests there’s room for performance when the fiber is connected. The main fluctuations occur during definition updates, which seem steady each day.
