I just upgraded my GPU from a 1080ti to a RX 6800. The issue is, my main game is CS2 (Formerly CSGO). I thought I'd get a slight boost in 1% FPS, but it was actually slower. I didn’t realize it was CPU-heavy, so I just got back to PC building and gaming. Now I’m wondering which CPU—Intel I7 12700 or Ryzen 7 5700X3D—is better for CS2? My current build uses an MSI A320 with a Ryzen 5 5500. I’m planning to replace the motherboard soon.

The motherboard includes a 5700X3D and works with the latest BIOS—don’t upgrade to a new board. It might not be ideal, but it won’t consume much power. If you decide to replace it, consider moving to DDR5.

They advised me to replace my motherboard because it would damage the VRMs. This was when I planned to purchase an R5 5500 in 2023. That’s why I decided to make and customize my VRM with heatsinks and thermal tape. It performed excellently!

Consider testing the 5700X3D on your upgraded board. If the VRM fails, you might need to replace it. You could save money by not upgrading to an AM4 CPU/board—opt for an AM5 7600 instead.

You can attach a fan to the VRMs which will significantly improve cooling for VRM temperatures, particularly with those additional heatsinks. The 5800x3D is recommended if available for $200–250 or below, or the newer 5700x3D. Make sure the A320 has the base clock labeled as FCH, and be aware that exceeding around 105 will require adjusting the PCIe link speed to Gen 2.

He seems likely to just drop the chip, apply XMP, and finish the job. Overloading him with settings probably won’t assist. He hasn’t been talked about in connection with this.

Despite this, the 5800x3d model still outperforms the new 5700x3d version when available at a comparable price or lower. The bclk remains straightforward, suggesting the main considerations are PCIe link speed and SSD, which only become relevant if you aim for speeds above 105bclk.
