The PSU is relatively new, and I replaced the original thermal module a few months ago after noticing minor gaming crashes. It seemed like a software issue that might resolve with updates, but nothing worked. My wife uses a PC for testing, so I tried it out to be sure. I didn’t underclock it as someone had suggested, and when it crashed again I just accepted it and swapped it in, hoping for some functional entertainment later.
I believe the temperature stays above 50°F in the house, especially since the floors feel noticeably colder. My wife works from home, so the heater runs at a lower temperature most of the time. There’s no condensation observed, but I was more worried about potential warping due to temperature fluctuations.
I still have the 3060, which feels like a waste to discard even if it’s the problem. It’s a shame because I’ve only owned this model since the pandemic, and I never experienced issues running it at full capacity. I ran Cyberpunk on release without any problems, even when others complained about melting systems.
However, tonight I’ll check again to confirm whether it was the real cause or just luck.
That's helpful. I had images of long icicles hanging from the ceiling when you mentioned 20 below.
I would be cautious about throwing it away until I tested it on a functioning computer with a reliable power supply. Run Furmark or another stress test if necessary, but regular apps or games should suffice
