Hey everyone, welcome! I’m really overwhelmed here. For the first time setting up a PC after many years, I’ve gone through everything to ensure compatibility. Here’s what I have:
- Intel i9-12900k
- 2x 32GB kits Corsair Vengeance DDR 5 5600
- Asus Rog Strix RTX 3050 OC
- Then upgraded to Rog Strix 4070 Ti OC last week
- Asus Rog Strix z690-e
- 1TB Samsung 980 Evo PCIe3 (Windows 11 Home installed)
- 2TB WD Black SN770 PCIe4
- Gigabyte 1000W 80 Plus Gold
- Gigabyte Aorus Waterforce 360
- Fractal Meshify 2 Lite RGB CPU (OCd with Asus AIOC from BIOS)
- RAM set to XMP 2
Previously, I built it with an Asus TUF z690 plus Wi-Fi, but thought the motherboard was bad since it came back from Amazon. I sent it back for a replacement Rog Strix z690e and also swapped the CPU. No changes in problems.
What I’m facing now:
1. After every restart, I struggle to open Windows—BSODs or system exceptions pop up during login, sometimes with error codes like irql or ntoskrnl.exe.
2. Games occasionally crash, sometimes due to an NVIDIA file (nvwgf2umx.dll) or game-specific issues. Event Viewer shows these errors after crashes. I’ve tried rolling back drivers and reinstalling games, but nothing works consistently.
3. Memtest86 showed errors on all four drives last night. When I put two sticks in the 32GB slots (A2 & B2), everything worked fine—no issues.
Diagnostics so far:
- Reinstalled Windows 11 multiple times (10+ attempts)
- Ran SFC/scannow and found errors
- DISM check revealed problems, which I fixed
- On my third motherboard and second CPU, the issue persists
- Chkdsk reported errors fixed, but they keep returning
- Memory diagnostic flagged hardware issues; tried running it overnight
- Windows update is current
- All drivers are up to date
- BIOS updated 10 times and reset several times
I’m really frustrated. Everything feels brand new, yet I’m stuck trying everything online. I’ve even lost my product code and had to switch to an older one. It’s exhausting, and I’m running out of time. Please help—I’m at my limit!
hasn't been updated yet. I remember when it switched to XMP 1, my bios rejected it and kept generating memory codes for my motherboard. The Windows Memory Diagnostic has been active all night, eventually stalling at 21%. I changed it back to the standard setting and restarted this morning so I’ll let it run through the day. I plan to disable XMP after the diagnostic finishes.
Turned off XMP settings and encountered a lockout issue with windows. Now receiving an error about unavailable pin and needing to set it up. Clicked yes for thrvstore to locate an app, but still got the same error. Seems like I might be resetting Windows multiple times.
It's good to hear. I can't get back into Windows, so I disabled XMP on my motherboard and reset it (this was my eleventh attempt!). After logging in, I ran a memory test right away. By now I expected a hardware error similar to what happened last night. It's about 63% through its second pass, and no issues were detected. Then I dug into XMP 3.0—seems my board doesn't support it yet, or maybe ever. MSI and Gigabyte include extra profiles in their BIOS. CPUZ lists XMP 3, but the board only shows XMP 1 and XMP 2. When I pick 1 or 2, the correct RAM timing appears with the speed. Could this be the problem?
Up until XMP was turned off, everything worked perfectly—no BSODs at startup, no crashes, and installations were much smoother without lock-ups. I’m worried this might stop me from overclocking my RAM. I bought a 5600 MHz chip because of that concern, but my motherboard supports up to 6800. I’ll need to try Cyberpunk and PC Build Simulator 2 to check for problems. It’s really discouraging.
I understood that. I was just trying to make sure it performed as intended. If I purchase Corsair Vengeance 5600mhz RAM, I plan to set it to 5600mhz with XMP profiles, not the default 4800mhz, otherwise I might have wasted money and could have gotten cheaper alternatives.
