I usually press ctrl c when contacting tech support because most services don’t handle over 1000 words, even though I know how annoying that can be. It’s worth sharing the details again, something I wouldn’t do for Arma. Bohemia actually provided decent tech support from my limited experience—they even sent me an executable file instead of just asking me to search online after several confusing messages about why I couldn’t play Arma 1, and it worked.
I have a few clarifications, thank you. I'm not playing Arma 3 yet, so please forgive any misunderstandings. Here are my questions:
1. Did you forward the port through your router and then set up the server inside the game?
2. Did you follow the instructions in the link you shared before to configure the server?
3. Or did you use the "Arma 3 Server" tool available in the Steam client? You can locate it by opening your Steam Library, clicking "Games" near the "Library" button, and selecting "Tools." There should be an option for "Arma 3 Server." I'm wondering because I previously managed servers for Source titles, and the Linux installation method matches what I used for those. I believe a server setup without issues is possible on Linux, though I don't have the game to confirm. So I suspect the problems might relate to...
1. Using port-forwarding or relying on Gamespy as a backend (since it's no longer available).
2. Requiring a dedicated IP address for your Windows or Linux installation on a server setup.
3. The method described doesn't seem to involve a dedicated server box, which might explain the difficulties.
I saw Fry watching a Futurama episode while he played dayZ Alpha on DayZ.
It seems to be functioning now, though I'm not sure how. I tried resetting everything, then redoing it, but it still didn't work. I ended up changing the router settings out of frustration and it finally fixed. Sometimes you just need to tweak something in the process. I also set up a static IP in Windows via Control Panel under Networking, then forwarded ports to that IP. After that, I rebooted the router, but it didn't work even with the same IP.
