I'm fed up with copying puzzle games, knocking off platform titles, and cheating in fighting games. FPS feels overused and there hasn't been any solid RTS since SC2... where did Command & Conquer go? I don't like RPGs with bland plots and repetitive hack-and-slash action.
Creating a fresh and profitable IP or franchise can be quite challenging and costly.
Really, you came first. Still, there are so many retro-style indie platformers out there. I understand indie developers often lack resources, but I have to admit—I can’t help but notice if they don’t put in the effort to showcase their unique style.
Absolutely, I also wanted to mention that the existing discussion highlights how the market is already crowded, with only a handful of strong opportunities left.
MMORPGs and FPS titles... I enjoy RPGs, but they all look alike in various skins, staying safe most of the time. The daring ones often fall into a weak spot with a bad publisher (LOOKING AT YOU NEXON!!). I hope VR brings some change, or someone will stop relying on point-and-click, poorly dressed characters and terrible quests together.
