Unreal Engine 5 highlights include Lumen and Nanite. Lumen enhances lighting and shadows, providing a more realistic experience while still supporting older systems. Nanite improves detail scaling, reducing pop-in as the camera moves near objects. Given UE5's growing popularity for game development, these features are likely to appear in many upcoming titles. My curiosity centers on which one excites me more and why. I find Nanite particularly thrilling. If future games eliminate noticeable pop-in, I’d be amazed if it would feel as disruptive as a low frame rate or missing shadows years later. The outcome will depend on what developers achieve with these technologies.
It's a safe bet. I haven't experienced many intense lighting moments since DX10.
