I've read through some articles and forums, then posted these ideas on several websites to see what others think. Not everyone agrees here, so here is what I have so far. Do any of you know about any of the software listed below? Would you be willing to share your own experiences with them? Any comments or criticisms would help a lot too. What am I missing? I'm totally new to Windows (I've been using Macs all my life) so I guess that's what I don't know yet. A USB cable connects the camera to your PC so you can move existing photos into a specific folder on the computer. You need one drive and one folder for this job. Inside that folder, there should be subfolders named by RAW, jpg, movie, year/month/day. It's manual work at first, but it becomes easy once you get used to it. Then you use Adobe Lightroom to manage those RAW files and organize them nicely. I don't like letting software automatically create libraries for me; I prefer to see where everything is located myself.

I haven't used Foxit lately because it has gotten too big, and most browsers can already read PDFs by themselves.

On your Thumbs up: Rainmeter - Can provide a very customized 'desktop', but only if you're actually into that. Can also slow down the overall experience. On your Thumbs Down: Speccy is fine MalwareBytes is fine GPartEd is fine PowerToys is fine, used properly Recuva is fine, used properly On your No Opinion: Ninite is used to install a lot of free/open source software. I use it with every new system I build. TreeSize is fine All these things are not meant to be running all the time. Specific tools for particular uses.

Foxit seems better than Acrobat Reader because nobody likes that other app. I like reading PDFs offline since I have tons of books and manuals on my hard drive. I even enjoy using the "Preview" feature on my Mac now; it's easy, open up most text or image files without any problems, and it feels clean. But my Mac is finally giving way to a brand-new PC. (It took over thirty-five years since that last one was DOS, though I did buy Windows 1.0 for the old one. Nice times were had all those days...) I also need something new to read ebooks on later.

it has to be an older version of PDF because on Windows, you can just click-and-drag a file onto the browser, and it will open it right away.

I still use Foxit myself and I like it very much. I avoid Adobe products entirely and never need another PDF viewer because Foxit works great without any extra hassle. However, honestly, I don't recommend installing random software just because you see it on the internet without a real reason to do so. As you work with your computer, specific things will come up that require special tools. Then find a program that fits those needs and use it. Keep adding only what is actually needed right now. If you let too many programs clutter your PC with stuff you never open, you end up with too many unused files for nothing.

Here are other people's opinions. You probably won't see everyone agreeing with your choices, or each other. I actually enjoy these: 7-zip Rainmeter KeePass AutoHotKey (maybe not great for a Windows beginner). AutoRuns (maybe not great for a Windows beginner). NirSoft utils (maybe not great for a Windows beginner). These are the ones to avoid: Driver Booster Sumo. There are also other apps worth checking out: 7-Sticky Notes (works on Win 10) Audacity T-Clock Redux x64 (gives you more control over your taskbar clock) Open-Shell (replaces the start menu in Windows 10) IrfanView (image viewer or editor). Media Player Classic, even though many people prefer VLC (and I do not).

And opinion... I like VLC and use it every single day. IrfanView - I do too! It's used every day just as well.
