If you significantly alter your computer’s setup by swapping out the motherboard and processor – particularly if they are from a different generation – it’s strongly advised to perform a fresh installation of Windows. While simply replacing components like your hard drive, graphics card, or memory usually doesn’t necessitate reinstalling Windows, you are absolutely free to do so whenever you believe it would be advantageous, especially if you’re paying someone else to perform the task. I've created a detailed guide tailored for individuals like you, outlining every single step involved in installing Windows cleanly, including where to obtain the installation files and what preparations to make beforehand.

Windows 10 Installation Tutorial
This is the resource you’ll need to download the creation tool, which enables you to generate Windows 10 installation media using the most recent version available.

Windows 10 Build Version 1809 Download and Update Link
Furthermore, you should carefully review these materials before starting any of the process. It may seem extensive, but it’s quite straightforward. Simply familiarize yourself with the necessary steps prior to installation, then create the media and proceed with a clean install following the detailed instructions in the linked tutorial.

How to Link Your Windows 10 License to a Microsoft Account
Reactivating Windows 10 Following Hardware Changes
Windows Build 1607 and Activation After Hardware Changes
Indeed, your hardware is suitable for use with a 2080 graphics card.

Appreciate the final thought. Considering your situation – choosing between a 1080Ti and a 2080 for purchase, given that many users are experiencing defective units – which card would you select? It seems the 2080 is causing some concern due to reports of failures. Also, certain games perform optimally with one card versus the other. What’s your actual preference and why?

Honestly, it appears that dead-on-arrival problems were largely concentrated in the 2080 Ti models, and many of the initial difficulties experienced with 2080 graphics cards have been addressed through updated driver versions. Excluding ray tracing, which hasn’t lived up to the initial hype, these cards generally perform quite well. I anticipate their performance will continue to improve as drivers are refined and Windows provides enhanced support for the underlying architecture—the hardware needs proper system backing to function optimally, and Windows often lags in adapting quickly. Typically, this is the case.

Personally, I'd select whichever choice provides a guarantee. Performance should be comparable when operating correctly, and the likelihood of receiving a defective card or one with issues is undeniably greater with a secondhand product than a new one. Furthermore, a warranty offers protection if problems arise with a new card, whereas a used card lacks any such safeguard unless it has never been registered and you possess the original purchase details—in which case, you're solely responsible.

That’s not a prudent approach when considering an $800+ graphics card. If a new 1080 Ti can be obtained at a reasonable price with a warranty, that would be my preference; otherwise, I'd opt for one of the 2000 series cards.

Alright. So I'll go with the rog strix 2080, crucial mx500 2tb and the seasonic 750w. The rest I'll just keep how it is. Dark, just thinking about wiping the drives.....is there anyway I can keep windows 10 but just wipe everything else??? Like starting new with Windows 10 without any games installed/saves and or mods and saved drivers from previous versions? Or do I have to factory reset everything? I kind of just want a fresh clean start....

Erase everything = NO WAY!

You’re better off with a completely fresh installation, free from unnecessary software and unwanted add-ons that often come standard on new computers. Perhaps you’re mistaking these two approaches, but they are fundamentally different methods of setting up your system.

A clean install removes all existing partitions from the hard drive – including the operating system partition, boot partition, and EFI partition. You’ll then install Windows onto the remaining unallocated space, allowing it to automatically create the necessary partitions and perform any required formatting before installing the operating system in a pristine, unadulterated state. This means no OEM advertising software, extraneous programs, or poorly performing “optimization” tools that can severely impact speed and performance like a virus – everything you don't need is eliminated. You can then carefully select only the drivers and applications you desire, after the installation is complete.

It’s virtually impossible to achieve this outcome directly, and it's not advisable. Instead, utilize the most current version of Windows available at the link I provided earlier and meticulously follow the detailed instructions in the Windows 10 clean installation guide, precisely as they are written. This will yield the exact type of installation you’re seeking – a completely new beginning.

Before proceeding, make sure to register your current Windows version and activate it using a Microsoft account linked to an email address you own. This prevents any potential issues with reactivating Windows after the clean install. I’ve included instructions for this process above, so completing it first is highly recommended. Then you can perform the clean install whenever you choose.

It’s crucial to carefully review the Windows 10 clean installation tutorial; it will shed light on numerous aspects of this process.

That sounds agreeable, Dark. Regarding my memory—would you still advise me to maintain my four 8GB sticks? That would total 32GB with two dual-channel sets, even though both are identical. I’m aware that some pairings can cause compatibility issues, despite their similarity. Should I reduce it to 16GB, or should I simply leave my 32GB in place? Over the past few months, I’ve consulted with three computer technicians, and each indicated that my RAM performed without problems—leading me to believe it's running at its base speed. When I revisit them, I plan to request they boost the performance, but what should I do in the meantime? I’m hesitant to purchase two 16GB sets, as that represents a greater expense—what course of action would you recommend?

I would prefer to retain your current recollection. I don't recognize any justification for removing it or acquiring additional storage.

However, could you clarify the speed of those components? Please also provide the model numbers for your kits.

I wouldn’t invest further funds in having someone else modify your setup. With a modest amount of online research, some basic reasoning, and the support of this group, you can accomplish almost anything independently.

I possess two sets of these kits, which arrived simultaneously and were identical models.

A technician installed Windows 10 for me utilizing an email address he established. If I were to perform a fresh installation while traveling with my computer, I’m uncertain whether I would retain a product key – or perhaps I will. This installation was provided without cost due to our prior relationship, but I intend to relocate it as he is a solitary individual. I strongly desire a pristine installation; however, if it necessitates payment for Windows 10, I’ll reconsider – provided that the email he generated includes a valid key. I understand you indicated that self-installation is possible by adhering to the instructions, yet I prefer a complete process upon retrieval.
