Today I got an upgrade for my existing PC. It now has a Ryzen 3200G, a 550MHz AORUS B450 motherboard, and an 1050Ti GPU. Everything functions properly until I install the new CPU. Then it gets extremely hot. I did this to verify it works. However, a VGA light stays on continuously, highlighting that even with all wires left in place, using the 3200G instead of the smaller Ryzen 5 2600 causes issues. It boots fine, but the CPU isn’t functioning properly.

I've attempted a BIOS reset, but the small CMOS battery keeps failing. Would a BIOS update be necessary?

The 3rd generation Ryzen on the Aorus B450 Pro is compatible with BIOS F40. You can verify this on Gigabyte's website. If your BIOS is outdated, updating it will resolve the issue. Otherwise, there may be another problem. Keep in mind, it’s wiser to edit your original comment rather than replying repeatedly unless no one has responded yet. Note: I assumed you’re referring to the Aorus B450 Pro; confirm the exact model for precise BIOS matching.

Yes, you should check for the F40 BIOS update to ensure your system runs smoothly.

I'm still unsure about the precise model of your board. You referred to the Aorus B450, but didn't specify if it's the B450 Aorus Pro, Aorus Elite, Elite V2, Aorus Pro Wi-Fi, or Aorus M series. Each model has its own BIOS version. I can't recommend a specific version without knowing the exact board, because suggesting the F40 might not work if your device is different. You should identify your exact model first, then check its supported BIOS for the 3200G chip before choosing an upgrade. If it's outdated, that could potentially resolve the problem.

Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. offers the B450 AORUS PRO-CF chipset with AMD and Ryzen support. The current BIOS version is F41. The Ryzen 3200G functions well, but you're considering swapping it for the Ryzen 5 2600 because it has more cores and should offer better performance. When installing the 2600, the system initializes normally with lights and VGA staying active. You're seeking a BIOS that accommodates the 2600 model instead of the 3200G.

Upgrading from 3200G to 2600 is a downgrade, not an upgrade.

He needs more cores—4C4T isn’t enough. Based on user benchmarks, the Ryzen 5 2600 outperforms the 3200G. Since I don’t need integrated graphics, the extra two cores and threads are useful for handling multitasking. It’s great when everything runs at full capacity without lag, or maybe I’m just misunderstanding how it helps.
