So I completed my build two days ago, mostly finished but needed custom cables and a water-cooled setup. Initially I used stock components—AMD cooler and standard cables. After removing the stock cooler, the CPU came out, causing some pin damage; one pin broke. I replaced it and then performed leak checks. It only leaked a single drop before shutting down. The PSU had just the 24-pin setup with a jumper wire and power switches. The leak hit the paper towel and landed on my GPU, which was fine for a drop but no power reached it. I removed the GPU, cleaned up the area, fixed the leak, and ran it for 24 hours to confirm no more issues. When I restarted everything fully powered on, the issue persisted. I tried swapping it with an older GTX 980 and it worked perfectly. Then I ordered another GTX 980 from about a week ago, but it still didn’t signal. Still wondering what went wrong. Build list: ASROCK X570 Ryzen 9 5900X (originally 3900x), Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 128GB, Powercolor Red Devil 6750 xt, Corsair RM1000E WD 512GB NVMe, Samsung 256GB NVMe, WD 256SATA M.2, and three x 1TB SSDs.
You've invested a lot by purchasing new GPUs and CPUs (I get it about the CPU). Don't go overboard with watercooling—these components don’t require it. It’s possible the PCIE slot or motherboard got affected when the water leaked, and you might not have noticed the drip.
However, the older GPU isn't particularly helpful if you're already using a water-cooling setup. Appreciate your feedback!
