Hello there! Your current setup includes a Ryzen 5 1600 with an RTX 1060 graphics card and 6GB RAM. You're planning to switch to a Ryzen 5 5600X and checked the Asus support site for BIOS compatibility. After installing the new BIOS, you're facing issues: your PC won't power on and shows an orange LED near the RAM slots. You're wondering if your older CPU can run the new BIOS and whether everything will work once you install the updated chip. Thanks for sharing your concerns!
It seems there might be some confusion. Let me clarify—did you mean to ask if your upgrade will work with your current setup? If not, we can explore compatibility together.
The BIOS update seems to have taken away support for your older CPU models. Revision 6042 removed compatibility with the pre-Zen APUs. Check your RAM and try reseating it. If the system still won’t boot, reset CMOS by disconnecting power from the wall while holding the clock battery.
That is not true according to Asus's website. Support to pre-Ryzen is removed for 6042 but not R5-1600. Unless they have a QVL error It is hard to say, you mentioned orange debug indictor (Q-LEDs as called by ASUS)? Then it's something wrong with CPU or DRAM (or motherboard not recognize them, which is BIOS related) The worst you can do is try BIOS flash back function (Nore sure but it can be what ASUS called CrashFree BIOS 3, You can also use EZ Flash 3 to try update the BIOS again ). You can refer to the manual about how to use those ( E13031_ROG_STRIX_B350-F_GAMING_UM_V2_web_20170606.pdf (asus.com) ) Chapter 3.11.2
The QVL didn't indicate the support was removed. It seems the 6042 version BIOS should have worked. I recommend flashing the BIOS with Asus EZ Flash 3/CrashFree BIOS 3 (check the manual) to see if it resolves the issue.
It seems the manual mentions a crash-free BIOS version, but the board doesn’t include it. The design requires a specific USB port for this feature, which isn’t present on the board. I’m counting on the new Ryzen 5 5600X to support the 6042 update. I just wish my motherboard is still functional.
