the resolution is straightforward: it can't be accomplished. restore all items to their original state and charge only for the work finished.
Ok then just say can't be done. Its different psu or no build transfer at all. If declined just bill your hours spent and call it a day. The client asked you to do X, you started doing X, ran into issue Y, client does not want you to fix issue Y caused by nobodies fault really, you cannot complete task X due to Y so you end task X and charge for the hours of time it cost you to stop doing task X due to the customer not wanting to fix Y. If you do the for free out of your own pocket stuff you WILL be taken advantage off, lose money and eventually get some VERY hard and usually costly life lessons. See it as a learning experience and also a case of using the "I shall look into this if it is possible and proceed with the work, any work I do will be charged regardless of result" sentence.
