I'm having an issue with a client.
The client has an older computer with all its parts. He gave me both the new case and his existing PC so we could move them over. The case he bought elsewhere isn’t a typical ATX power supply, but he insists on using it because he can’t afford a new one.
You confirmed the HP PSU doesn’t fit the Cougar case. You also informed him about the compatibility issue with the new case, noting it’s a proprietary HP model requiring a different ATX PSU.
It’s important to clarify expectations so there’s no misunderstanding. I’m not suggesting you spend your own money on a PSU that fits in the case, but I also recognize the client’s perspective. This situation can be valuable for learning—make sure to review all details before starting any work. Also, it’s worth checking whether the new components are compatible with the existing setup, especially if they use proprietary HP connections.
It's unusual since parts such as the motherboard are placed in the case like any other component. The issue only appears with the power supply, so I'll demonstrate it tomorrow and ask what he needs to do. I've already installed a Sentey ATX power supply I found, and it functioned perfectly.
Interesting! However, a problem that can be resolved is clear—everything functioned properly with a standard ATX power supply. This outcome can also be demonstrated to the customer.
Thanks for your patience. It seems unclear whether the issue lies with me or the part itself.
The cables are probably made by HP, so they’re likely exclusive too. A regular ATX power supply probably won’t fit.
