the speed increase to 5mbps could apply to either an IDE or SATA disk. for solid state drives and nvme devices, the extra 500mbps won’t matter much unless you fix it with regular defrags, clearing temporary files, or using tools like CC cleaner (but be careful what you choose). startup entries and virtual ram also help speed things up a bit by placing files differently, though they can slow down other areas like reserved space. for general maintenance, a clean install on a fresh drive is the best option. i recently moved all my data to a 4tb disk, used it as my boot drive, and kept my old folders intact. after a few years, i performed a clean install without losing any files and now have the flexibility to reinstall whenever needed. this approach works well if you don’t risk losing anything—especially avoiding games and saving files in %userdata% folder. for simple upkeep, keep a boot drive for windows only and store important files elsewhere.

I collected some unused hard drives from Windows Vista desktops? I defragment regularly. Perhaps the issue lies in an outdated version of Windows, as I haven’t needed a reset since the last major update about five months ago, which required resetting every two weeks. Anyway, it seems to be functioning well now, so I’ve left things as they are. Adobe programs appear to have trouble with older hard drives.
