I'm facing a problem with the new AM5 GPU and hope for some assistance.
Hello everyone, I recently chose to start building a new AM5 PC and faced a really puzzling issue. After trying various solutions, I’ve been working through the problem for several days without success. The main concern is that my GTX 1080 doesn’t boot properly when placed in the first PCIe x16 slot—it sometimes won’t start at all, other times it boots but freezes instantly, and occasionally it goes to the GPU mode even without a monitor connected. When I move it to another PCIe slot with only two lanes, it works perfectly. I’ve also reinstalled Windows multiple times using both 10 and 11, tried different power connectors, updated the BIOS to the latest version, and even flashed the motherboard’s BIOS to the newest beta. Despite these efforts, I still suspect a hardware issue. I sent the motherboard back for replacement but they said it functions fine. When I asked about the GPU, they mentioned a slow match (my location is in the Netherlands and their support is unreliable). If it isn’t the BIOS, GPU, or motherboard, I’m running out of options and hoping someone here can assist. I've cleared the CMOS 3 times by now, also this is a new build the first thing that was in the pc was the GPU in the first slot. In all my years of pc building i've never been so defeated.
Sure, I can attempt to use a different GPU. Please let me know which one you'd like to try.
Used a different GPU and it didn't function in the first PCIe port.
I own a second PCIe x16 card running at x2, and it functions properly. I've previously used an even older Nvidia model (likely the 690), which also didn't fit in the main slot. The store staff who handled my return told me it worked with their GPU, though they didn't specify which one. I also tried Gen3 on the main slot, but that didn't work either.
