I'm experiencing strange and unpredictable problems when starting up my computer.
I have been using this pc for several years, so it isn't a brand-new setup. A few months ago I encountered a problem: when I restart instead of shutdown, it enters a boot loop. It powers on briefly and then shuts down before the post appears, leaving nothing visible on the screen. After unplugging all drives, it stopped looping and started functioning normally again. However, more recently, when I power it on from a cold start, it briefly starts and stops before the post, with fans running and the power LED illuminated.
I’m still unsure about the issue and repeated attempts to fix it have not resolved it. After restarting, it works fine now. But it’s not starting properly anymore, and I need assistance.
I turned it on and checked all voltages—everything looks correct. I’m not sure if the power supply is faulty despite having all the required voltages. Are there other factors besides the power supply that could be causing this problem?
I have been using this pc for several years now. When sharing a troubleshooting thread, it's standard to provide detailed system specifications. Please list the details as follows: CPU, CPU cooler, Motherboard, RAM, SSD/HDD, GPU, PSU, Chassis, OS, Monitor. Also include the age of the PSU along with its make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this time?
I don't have too much detail about the hardware but since I took off the cover I can say that the motherboard is an ASRock B85-ITX I have 2 ram stick not sure of the brand or size The CPU I believe is an INTEL not sure of the specs
The power supply is a Winsis SKY-560ATX 460W
There is no CPU cooler just a heatsink and fan Chassis is no name brand
No GPU I am using the onboard graphics
I have 2 sata drives and 1 sata dvd
The monitor is an ACER 22 inch
I tried swapping the ram sticks and resetting the CMOS but it did not make any difference the fans are spinning and the power led is on but no getting to POST Not sure what else I could try
Sometimes it sounds like the hard drive is spinning up for 1-2 seconds but than silence and no further activity
The PSU might actually be responsible for the motherboard failing, as it appears to be a low-quality unit barely meeting 300W standards. Replacing it is highly advised if the motherboard isn't a perfect match. Windows attempts to make up for shortcuts, but problems can persist, leading to bugs or performance issues for extended periods even after booting with the old OS.
