You can perform a clean install of Win11. Once you reach the activation screen, entering your old DC key should work if you have it saved. No need to upgrade first unless you want to convert the key for future use.

These Windows keys function seamlessly across different versions (Win8, Win10, Win11). They’re generally compatible during upgrades.

Windows 7 and the upgrade Vista to 7 options are included on this list. I haven't tried it with Windows 11 yet, since it's a lot of issues, but it works for Windows 10.

If your key links to your Microsoft account, it will identify your device automatically and register it during login.
