Wow! It clearly demonstrates how much RAM costs have risen when you can swap a GPU, power supply, and 8GB for just one 16GB DIMM. When I received my brand new GTX 1650 in 2019, I could have purchased a lot of RAM for the same price.
I was given 160 sticks of old DDR3 (mainly 8GB) from office PCs. I’m curious if there’s a demand for such outdated items on eBay.
160 sticks of DDR3 memory are worth a minimum of §4800. That means whoever gave you them must have been very generous.
Those who say it's the most horrible time to upgrade because of ram should take a look around. The ram price craziness is about DDR5. DDR4 kits are still available for reasonable prices. But even though you get the exact same model, your sticks are still not matched. The only way to get matched sticks is to buy a kit with the total amount you need. If you mix sticks from different kits you might have stability issues even though they are the exact same model and specs. It may work, but it's not guaranteed.
