I'm setting up my first PC and planning to use a 480GB SSD (Sandisk Ultra II) as the main storage with the operating system, while keeping a 1TB WD HDD for other files. I want to know if it's better to store Steam games on the SSD or the HDD, how much space the OS will need, and whether 250GB is sufficient. Also, is a 480GB SSD too much?
Keep the 480gb SSD; the Sandisk is a solid option. Most of your games are stored on the HDD, whereas those with slow loading or programs needing speed—like photo/video editing—fit better on the SSD. This depends on personal preference. Feel free to allocate space as you like, though it adds up fast. Depending on your library size (or the fact it’s your first PC), a 2tb HDD might be wise. I suggest a 2tb drive for added confidence. Titles such as DOOM or GTA5 can be quite large—50-80gb each. Most AAA games are at least 20gb or more.
Windows 10 requires approximately 17.5GB, though it can differ slightly but typically stays between 16-20GB.
Ensure you have a minimum of 1tb HDD paired with an SSD boot. Many titles don’t gain much advantage from the SSD speed.
