I own a 500gb Sandisk Extreme SSD that was functioning to save files several weeks ago. I connected it to two laptops now, and it appears as a USB/CD drive prompting me to enter a disk when I click it. It won’t format for this reason. I attempted to format via Disk Management, but it still shows as a CD drive and refuses recognition. In Device Manager it’s listed as the Sandisk storage controller, and I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers without success. I’ve also used various cables—both USB C to USB and strictly C—but nothing works. I’d really like to format it. I’ve heard this issue can occur when a drive letter conflicts.
Looks like it’s not working well. There have been notable issues with these products: https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/...-revealed/
Have you attempted a manual approach using DiskPart? Often Disk Management lacks the ability to handle volumes directly, so I resort to CMD with DiskPart for these tasks.
It doesn't provide much assistance when it's no longer considered a drive. I suspect the issue stems from faulty internal links; storage controllers typically save their settings directly on flash memory. If that link fails, they fall back to a standard built-in configuration, which might look like a CD drive.
Maybe he should just grab a CD or DVD, let it have what it wants.
