My laptop has an i5-8300H processor and 1x8GB DDR4 RAM at 2666MHz. I plan to upgrade it with a SODIMM 2x4GB DDR4 2400MHz module. I'm curious—will it start up properly or won't it work at all? Thanks for the helpful replies! LMAO, no sponsors here.

If you are mixing it with the other ram, there is a good chance that it will not boot up because they are different speeds and also probably different manufacturers. If you are replacing all of the ram though it should be completely fine.

Would it require a boot-up period? It might perform a memory verification. Since I attempted this three hours ago, the laptop lights up but no output appears on the screen ten seconds later. Should I allow it additional time?

The SKHynix 2x4GB model from Kingston and TeamGroup comes from factory SKHynix. I use the identical version; nothing appears on the display, yet the laptop powers on.

The original answer suggested compatibility should be fine, possibly with the old RAM in place. If the brands, speeds, sizes, or latencies differ, they may not function properly on a laptop or desktop. For instance, these are some images of mismatched RAM that wouldn't work together. I’m not sure any of the modules are faulty.
