Idle temperature setting for Ryzren 9 3900X
What's considered normal for your Ryzen 9 3900 X under these conditions is around 60°C during idle with a 240mm AIO cooler. The current room temperature is 26°C, so it seems a bit warm but not unusual.
When checking Ryzen Master it displays 48°C, while HWMonitor shows around 60°C.
Even in a mild 26°C, 60°C idle feels hot. What matters most are the component temperatures.
I probably won’t worry too much about it. I’m not sure what my 3800x does (I’m on my lappy), but I think it was around the 40s and its max load is similar to yours. You might try moving your cooler around to see if it helps, but I don’t think you should stress too much since none of your temperatures are risky.
The issue stems from the Core Performance Boost and Precision Boost Overdrive settings in the BIOS. These features cause your CPU to frequently reach high frequencies—up to 4.5ghz+ at certain voltages—but they're typical behavior. If you don’t require heavy workloads, you can turn these off in BIOS and ensure AMD Cool n Quiet remains active. This has helped me maintain stable idle temperatures from 40°C to 50°C, dropping below 30°C during idle. With the overdrive enabled, full load temps rise to around 60°C, while with them disabled, idle temps stay between 20°C and 30°C, and peak performance never exceeds 45°C. The HWinfo tool is useful for tracking temps but doesn’t display precise core speeds. For accurate readings, use Ryzen Master.
