specs: asus x570 mobo ryzen 9 5950x lien le 360 aio lien le o11 dynamic glass asus 6800xt asus rog 800w psu need guidance on how to begin troubleshooting. just arrived home and began playing my favorite game. within seconds the pc slows down and becomes unresponsive, eventually shutting off. after restarting, I see a boot warning about overheating. check bios – it’s running hot, around 100°C, then shuts down again. waited a while, tried again now idle. asus cpu tool shows 90°C on the processor and 43°C on the motherboard overall. i think the cooler is working but the system is still struggling. I’ve been using this machine for a year, so I assume it’s not due to a loose component. This seems like a common issue with high-performance builds under load. what should I do next?
These abrupt temperature spikes suggest a pump malfunction. When the tiny water volume in the block stops flowing, it rapidly warms up, pushing your CPU to higher temperatures. Continued overheating causes it to struggle to cool, surpassing its maximum junction temperature (Tjmax). At this stage, it shuts down for safety. If you have warranty coverage, initiate a return or replacement request.
That was my initial idea. I don’t know if I can get a cooler air tomorrow to try it out.
That would be ideal! Please let us know your plans for tomorrow.
