It influences performance noticeably and works while gaming as well. It can be either very effective or just average depending on the situation.

Relies on the specific games you run. An RTX 2060S at 1080p with a 7700k is experiencing noticeable performance drops, though this varies by title. Upgrading to a newer CPU would typically boost performance by 10-15% in most games, but could reach up to 100% in titles like WoW that hit CPU IPC or frequency limits. Anything older than the Ryzen 3000 and Intel 12th generation should be replaced for optimal gaming results.

Consider your budget and needs before deciding. If you can afford it, a newer PC might be worth the investment; otherwise, a used one could work just as well.

If you're on a tight budget, consider getting the RTX 2060. The 7700k and 2060 offer great performance for 1080p gaming.

From my perspective, consider replacing your CPU with a 13th or 14th generation or a Ryzen 5000/7000 3D. If the improvements from your RTX 2060S aren’t enough, think about upgrading that as well. Regardless, moving to a CPU with 7.4 GHz should be ideal, though the 2060S remains a strong GPU for 1080p.

You're asking about the current situation: what you're replacing, why you're making the change, and your financial limits. You're considering whether a 2060 with a 7700K would work, if a faster CPU would help, and whether a RX 6600 offers similar performance at a comparable price.

your b250m-k uses an asus motherboard, and it seems there aren't any bios updates available for newer gens.

When I say 'upgrade your CPU' I'm talking about buying a new motherboard at a minimum as well. You're effectively doing a 'platform' upgrade, which may or may not include RAM depending on what specific kit of DDR4 you're currently using. If you have a budget for a CPU (platform) upgrade, then that'll help us give you the best recommendation as well.
