Identifying performance issues related to the processor.
Hello. I’m planning to upgrade to a GTX 1660 Super soon. My current CPU is slow—my processor is an Athlon 4x 950. Do you have any affordable CPU suggestions that would work well with the 1660 Super? Also, I’m using a 1080p resolution (1920x1080) and have an A320M-A PRO motherboard.
Choosing a new CPU requires a compatible motherboard, and that in turn means you'll need an upgraded CPU cooler.
Which motherboard are you using? Zen is just a BIOS upgrade in the near future, and CPU suggestions depend on your power supply quality.
Consider upgrading your BIOS and choosing any AM4 chip you prefer. What price range are you aiming for? Which country are you purchasing from? A Ryzen 3600X would stand out compared to what you currently have, while a Ryzen 5000 is also an option—though the latest updates often stop support for older models, making it harder to fix issues if you buy a used one.
I’ll consider getting the Ryzen 3600x now since it’s affordable in Russia and fits your budget. Your check of the bottleneck calculator suggests around 6.8% performance, which seems reasonable. With a $100 budget for the CPU, you might want to balance cost and performance—maybe look for a mid-range option that still meets your needs.
Skip the guesswork tools—they’re unreliable. The numbers are estimates at most. The exact CPU capacity depends on each game and its own settings, making it impossible to pin down one value. Still, the 3600 core count works well in practice.
