Identifying Issues with Unintended System Shutdowns
I'm dealing with a recently built PC that's begun experiencing random restarts. Before roughly a week it worked perfectly. I haven't encountered any BSODs except for occasional resets that don't seem linked to demanding applications like games or heavy software. It occurs during both gaming sessions and while browsing the web or watching YouTube. Occasionally, when problems arise, the system becomes sluggish—sometimes moderate, sometimes more noticeable. During normal use without gaming, I notice lag during typing or when streaming videos. In games, frame rates drop significantly. Since it just restarts, there are no error messages or codes. Is there a method to diagnose the cause or should I consider replacing parts? Also, the time between resets varies from minutes to hours. If the issue is mainly lag, a restart usually helps but doesn't always resolve it. I suspect this isn't a software problem because even after a fresh Windows install with the latest drivers, the issue persists. The PC isn't overclocked and presents similar performance issues in both gaming mode and normal settings on my ASRock mITX Z390 board. From what I have, the motherboard is an EVGA 2070 Super EVGA SFX650w Gold PSU ASROCK mITX Z390 Phantom Gaming model, paired with an Intel 9700k chipset.
I understand you've managed to run Prime95 for more time than I could, without any restarts or shutdowns. The ASRock hard ware monitor experienced temperature spikes reaching around 105 degrees, which isn't great. However, there were no reset events during those three hours.
-If possible, consider using a different PSU to rule out power problems.
-You might take out your graphics card and run without it, using the built-in GPU instead.
-Perform a memory test such as memtest86 just to verify your RAM is functioning properly (though shutdowns don’t always indicate bad RAM).
