Identifying issues with game performance and freezing.
I set up Intel Presentmon and tested Elden Ring with both medium and high configurations. With medium settings I achieved around 60 FPS and 50.2 FPS, while GPU usage stayed at about 2895 MHz and memory utilization hovered near 60%. On high settings the performance dropped to roughly 40.4 FPS and 95% GPU memory use, with consistent 45.5% memory utilization. I’m unsure if my issue stems mainly from the 8GB of VRAM or something else. My game occasionally froze for a few seconds and showed noticeable frame drops, making it less smooth. I’m also confused about why my memory usage stays so low unless it’s intentional. I don’t know how to enable VSR/DSR in any game without checking the settings directly.
Elder Ring's performance caps at 60 frames per second, meaning the GPU operates near full capacity only around 60% under medium configurations. When freezes persist for several seconds rather than brief interruptions, the issue likely stems from storage media (SSD or HDD) or insufficient RAM. These problems often appear during transitions like loading new game areas. DSR is activated in Nvidia settings, allowing a higher in-game resolution than your display supports; the image is rendered at that resolution and then reduced to 1080p.
It seems you're exploring ways to improve performance by reducing minor audio glitches. The idea of upscaling helps smooth out inconsistencies, which can ease stuttering or freezing issues caused by lower-quality samples.
Lower quality demands less processing from the GPU = reduced CPU strain = tighter timing variation = GPU transitions between high and low power states... Increased clarity results in greater GPU demand = diminished frame rate = narrower gap between frame durations and minimal CPU limitations.
I'll explore different games and check for any performance issues with Intel Presentmon. I'll also try DSR, hoping it helps. It still feels like the game or software isn't running smoothly at a steady 60fps, even when idle. I'm not sure if my SSD or RAM is the problem. Would there be a way to test this without replacing parts? Thank you for all the assistance so far!
