Identify USB version details
Identify USB version details
USB Type C connections are consistently USB Gen3/3.1. On the port, USB 3 devices appear blue, while USB 2.0 and 1.1 devices are typically black. Checking Device Manager under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" will provide the details. The exact mapping depends on the physical ports you're examining.
Check the specifications of the device or use a compatible adapter to determine if it supports USB-C Gen1 or USB-C 3.1 Gen2.

I believe there’s some mix-up. USB2.0 is 480Mbps, USB3.0 reaches 5Gbps with Type A and B ports, USB3.1 Gen1 offers 5Gbps via Type A, B, and C ports, while USB3.1 Gen2 delivers 10Gbps through Type A, B, and C ports. All Type C ports are technically USB3.1 but can switch between Gen1 and Gen2 speeds. In Device Manager you won’t see a clear distinction unless you check the chipset details for the Root Ports. On Type A connectors, 5Gbps appears as blue, whereas 10Gbps is usually light blue. You might also notice labels like SuperSpeed (SS) for 5Gbps or SuperSpeed+ (SS+, 10Gbps) near the ports.
