I'm trying to figure this out. I set up a system for a friend, but it doesn't post consistently when the graphics card is installed. It worked fine in another PCIe x16 slot, but stopped again after moving it. I've tried swapping the power supply, re-seating parts, checking cables, updating BIOS, and installing the latest drivers. Any suggestions or help would be really appreciated.

When the system doesn’t work, do the debug lights or beeps appear? Check the bottom connectors for any signs of damage. Are there any overclocking attempts on the device? Updated May 18, 2022 by Bombastinator

I haven't noticed any error codes or lights. The power button remains active for a brief moment before shutting off repeatedly when it fails. Could you clarify if you're referring to the connectors on the power supply? I verified they were all connected during reinstallation, but I'll double-check. The only noticeable adjustment is the memory's overclock using XMP, and changing that didn't seem to impact performance.

PCIe connector on the card. Oops, a bit of wording trouble. I didn’t quite find the right term. The part that fits with gold contacts on both sides—any of those connectors are damaged? Regarding the debug codes, if it doesn’t post, it should generate them somehow. There are three possible methods. If there are no LEDs and no digital display, it must be audio, so you’d need to connect a speaker. The motherboard manual should contain more information. XMP is known to cause issues, so it’s best to troubleshoot without it. Try turning it on later.

The PCIE connector appeared to work properly. I haven’t used XMP recently, and it’s still experiencing problems occasionally. I’ll check the manual for debugging codes, but if you have suggestions on what to try, I’m open to hearing them.

Posting occasionally happens because the system sometimes starts up automatically during a Power On Self Test. This app checks the hardware before the operating system loads. If XMP settings helped, the issue likely lies in memory or power supply. For prebuilt devices like laptops, the PSU is usually fine since it was selected by someone aware of the machine's specs. What PSU model do you have?
