I initially wondered if this should belong in the Software section, but I'm not sure. Recently, I encountered a problem that looked straightforward at first but quickly became complicated—my friend’s mother had her Microsoft Office Publisher document corrupted while transferring it from one USB drive to another. The file stopped opening with the error “Publisher cannot open this file.” Even though the file was always saved to the USB drive and never appeared on the PC, I tried using a data recovery app or attempting to restore an older version. Only two tools were listed as capable, but both returned empty results except one that displayed “-demo” instead of actual functionality. I’m unsure what to do next. Could anyone share advice on handling this situation? The device is a Windows 7 laptop running MS Office 2007, and the file size is about 550MB.
