I improved my computer about three months ago, switching from an i9 9th gen to a i9 14th gen. Everything worked until two to three weeks ago when I observed some applications shutting down unexpectedly. Around the time Schedule released an update, I thought the issue was linked to the game. Over time, I began playing other titles such as Dota 2 and Minecraft, and the problem continued consistently. It usually happens during about five to ten minutes of gameplay before the application closes. I also noticed my browsers becoming unstable—every 30 to 45 minutes of browsing or even just watching YouTube videos, they would crash with a "STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION" error. I attempted several fixes: powering off XMP, undervolting the CPU to 1.5v, disabling certain cores, running a MemTest, updating the BIOS. The only apps that didn’t close on their own were Steam and Spotify. I’m puzzled by the ongoing issues and have searched online for similar problems without success. Before the upgrade, my specs were i9-9900k with Asus ROG Strix Z390-I, 32 GB Corsair Dominators RTX 3090 and 850W SFX. After the upgrade, I switched to i9-14900k with Asus ROG Strix Z790-I, 64 GB Kingston Fury Renegade and 6000MHZ RTX 3090, 850W SFX. Updated April 28, 2025 by JamesColin.
Bring everything back to stock using one of the Intel profiles available in the latest BIOS. If the system runs smoothly afterward, it’s acceptable despite reduced performance. If stability issues persist or additional symptoms appear, I’ll arrange for a replacement.
Attempting the extreme setting now. Intel Default Settings includes Performance and Extreme options.
If the problems continue after following Tetras' advice, reinstall Windows and check if it resolves the issue before giving it back. Updating or replacing the CPU/mobo without a full OS reinstall can cause hidden issues that aren't obvious right away. This has happened to me several times.
