Identified the reason behind the slow search in the Windows Start Menu and found a possible fix.
Search functionality relies on Windows Indexing Service. By default, it captures %programdata%\Microsoft\Start Menu data, which is helpful. However, by default, MS doesn’t index %appdata%, and in that directory you’ll find %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu. When you adjust the Indexing Options, you’ll see that this specific path isn’t included. I’ve reported this issue via Feedback Hub; currently, items in Users’ Start Menu folder—not %programdata%—cause delays. Even if your file is in %programdata%, results will lag.
You can’t enable indexing for other users unless you first open their profile folder in Explorer to gain access. Those folders won’t appear in the Indexing Options because the dialog doesn’t show them. Indexing updates take time, so consider forcing immediate indexing or letting the system sit idle briefly during testing.
In short, locate the Indexing Options in Start, modify it, navigate to \Users\{username}\AppData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu, check the box, and click OK. For other users, open Explorer, go to their folder, grant access, then repeat the steps. Wait for updates before proceeding.
