Hello, today I installed Debian 10 with xfce desktop and everything went well until I began adding apps. The apt cache shows almost no applications compared to the previous setup, even basic programs like chromium, vlc, gimp, and Intel-microcode are missing. How can I resolve this issue?

For a desktop built on Debian, it's best to avoid it and choose another Debian-based distribution like Ubuntu, Mint or Pop instead.

Debian is my favorite operating system—I've been using it for a while now. I recently installed a new SSD and ran into an issue (this occurred because I was using the ISO with only free components). A helpful tip came from a Debian source list page, which I found useful after some investigation.

I only recommended a Debian-based option because those versions offer extra features for a desktop setup. But if you're comfortable with Debian, it's perfectly fine.
