Searching for a moon colony simulation or a version similar to the original SimCity with updated graphics. I prefer the straightforward nature of the original SC over the newer versions.

Take a glance at "Anno 2205," which could eventually lead to colonising the moon, though it presents quite a challenge. Another title worth checking out is Rimworld, even though its graphics aren't top-notch, it's still something to consider.

Thank you, but I'm not seeking a highly intricate game or something that takes a long time to play.

I fully agree with @Finnskii on Anno 2205. It tends to reach around $9.00 quite often, so just give it some time to secure it at that price. As for the rest...

Deliver Us The Moon (will launch in 2019)
Surviving Mars
It's not about the moon, but it could be what you're after. A historic low for the next six days here...
Surviving Mars
.
Lifeless Planet
I really enjoy this game. It performs well when priced between $8.00 and $5.00 during the biggest sales this year.

Planetbase
Currently priced at $10.49 for the next day and a half here...
Planetbase
It won't drop much lower, possibly around $1.00 less on Steam at some point.

Moonbase Alpha
It's completely free!
Moon Tycoon
An older title that often gets overlooked. It seems to have potential. It usually lands just under $10.00 during major sales.

I also know a few others, but they tend to be more about space colonies than the moon or mars. The only reason I didn't include them was because they weren't immediately to mind. Ooh,
The Spatials came to mind as an example. It's a nice game I got for about $0.25 on eBay a few months back. I've really liked it so far.

SimCity 2013 should work too. It reached $9.99 in April for about two weeks, so it should hit a similar price soon.

I also discovered this offer and believe it could appeal to you...
SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition
With the Fanatical10 10% discount coupon, it reaches a record low price of just $1.79, and you still have a week to secure it at that cost. It typically reaches $1.99 about once each month. Although it's a game from 16 years ago, this deluxe edition was developed 9 years prior.
It functions as an updated version with bug corrections, performance improvements, native resolution compatibility, and support for the newest Mac OS X releases.
